Cheesy? Those fools influenced a lot of bands you find "awesome."

Cheesy isn't a bad thing though.

I mean, look at Blind Guardian....

Blind Guardian is not cheesy. A lot of their songs have stories/meaning behind them. They're doing a favor to the oh-so-stereotyped Power Metal genre by not being so cheesy, I think. Iron Maiden is heavy metal, and no arguments there.

Blind Guardian isn't cheesy at all, mate. Something like DragonForce is cheesy. Blind Guardian is just ****ing epic.

I'd classify Iron Maiden as one of the pioneers in the power metal subgenre.

Some of their older stuff like Follow The Blind is a bit cheesy, but has meaning to it as well. Everything from Imaginations on has a definite story behind each song, especially A Night At the Opera.

yar, iron maiden do be heavy metal

although they do have elements of what one could consider power metal. their current lead singer does have the high, operatic voice that do tend to be associated with power metal, and some of their songs do be fairly epic. but they do be heavy metal thar, matey.

iron maiden are in a genre of their own....it cannot be said in words, only through the international gesture can you define their awesomeness.

Iron Maiden are heavy metal. It's not even an arguable point. Along with Black Sabbath and Judas Priest they pretty much define heavy metal.

They may not seem heavy to you now but they were the heaviest thing around back when the term was developed.

They're not power metal. They may have influenced it but they aren't a part of the genre. I personally don't think they're that cheesy either but I guess it depends how you judge it.
I play by my own rules. And I have one rule; There are no rules... but if there are, they're there to be broken. Even this one.

Confused? Good.
