Well I have a peavey jsx head and I am about the buy some speaker cables. I've been using guitar but since I'm buying new ones I figured I'd do it right.

Don't use guitar cables to connect a head to a cab, you'll break the leads plus it could potentially start a fire!!!

indeed. speaker and instrument cables are different. only use a speaker cable, and get one as short as possible
