What's a good guitar in the 800-1500 price range? I play various extreme metal genres (tech-death, doom, grindcore, metal etc) and need something new

I say ESP all the way. ESP or Schecter, both are good.

Just make sure you get real EMG's, not ESP-EMG's.

Great list Rutch. On re-reading this one I'd have to say Solid State means not liquid or gas.

I figured it out.

EC-1000 Deluxe or a EX-400 would be deadly.

Ibanez XPT-700

Absolutely not, that guitar is way overpriced, and has a crap trem.

I'd say Carvin all the way. Or perhaps a PRS (Opeth use 'em), Jackson Soloist, or an Ibanez Prestige (don't get an S Prestige though, total waste of money).

Ibanez RGT Prestiges man, best guitar I ever bought.

Ibanez RG 2570; ESP Horizon (out of the budget?); LTD M-1000; LTD MH-1000; LTD EC-1000; Jackson Jackson SLSMG , RR24 or SL3, Edwards E-AL-120...

I wish I have your doubt ( £, $, € )

Customize your own guitar, definitely.

I also highly doubt that you (or really anybody on the planet) needs a triple recto...

^I'd let a pro look at it. Once you get into the technicalities of screws...well, it's just a place you don't want to be, friend.

Schecter Hellraiser.

nobody likes, or wants that guitar besides emo kids who suck.

Get a Gibson V and add an OFR to it.

Ummmm.

He plays metal.

The Hellraiser is *slightly* more suited to metal than a Gibson V...

*and* cheaper.

(And arguably better built ).

I disagree. And I hate Vs. Seriously you can't make a statement as broad as that. The Hellraiser seems pretty solid.
