I'm building an MXR MicroAmp from here: http://tonepad.com/project.asp?id=6 (also getting the parts for a Distortion+) and I need to find diodes to use in place of the 1N207 and 1N914. Can someone pleeeaaase look them up for me? I'm going to order the book from Electus for future reference but I'd really like to order all the parts now as well.

Also the 4558 IC, what op amp ICs would be a good substitute?

Thanks dudes

Try mouser.com for replacements. They cross reference most every IC made. Just look for those ICs and they will most likely have a replacement if they don't have the original.

All of those that you mentioned are quite easy to find.

Either of these will work for your opamp.

I completely missed the 1N914 at Electus, brain snap.. the others are impossible to find in Australia. I ended up just getting the 1N270s shipped from Smallbear. Thanks for the Mouser tip though, that'll be good for future, just so I can find the replacement part number and try and find it at my suppliers.

For the 4558, you can use a TL072 or NE5532. For the 1N270, you can use a 1N34A. Diodes are pretty easy to get from Jaycar/DSE/etc. Place an order at www.futurlec.com.au, they've got basically everything you're going to need.

PS. Yeah Electus is just the wholesale version of Jaycar - same stock, same part numbers, ~1/2 the price. Work has an account so I just order from there

I've got trade discount at Jaycar, so I'm pretty sweet

Rockin, how good is trade price eh haha.

Man that Futurlec joint is a gold mine. Plenty of good microcontroller stuff too.. AVR gear is a bit of a pain, I had to order from fkn Farnell last time to get the parts I wanted

I'm avoiding from ordering from overseas as much as I can. If there's something really obscure I need, chances are that there's a replacement that I can get easier

Yeah definitely. I've ordered the semiconductor replacement guide from Electus so I should be able to find whatever I need

I noticed in your sig you built a power supply. I've just been looking at some of the layouts and stuff on generalguitargadgets.com.. where did the schematic come from that you used? I was thinking about building one for my snake cable but it might be easier to just use one from Jaycar or whatever..

I made up my own layout for it - there's probably about 5 components in the whole thing. I ran it of a 12VAC transformer I bought from Jaycar. I'm happy to whip up a copy in Multisim if you want a look at it.
