I notice in general the most hated people are

Tome Delonge
Jack White
Billie Joe

PS for the record Billie Joe can shred, his been quoted as saying.

Just wanting the general consenus. In most case I find guitarists resent other popular guitarists who they deem to play easy or medoicre material.
#7
I dislike the bland and unoriginal. If someone's not a great guitarist but is inventive, good with the writing and whatnot then cool. If it's powerchords-weak solo- lyrics that don't say anything new then I just can't be bothered with them. Don't hate, just don't like and tend to ignore

EDIT: The same's true for "good" guitarists that I just don't click with. If I don't like the sound then I don't consider them good, even if the noise they're making is quite hard to make.

I like Jack White.

Its just because the bands they play in offer nothing to the music community, if they innovated something, or popularized a new technique, or invented a new genre.. then it might be different.

Use a bit of punctuation and spell correctly please.

Tom Delonge, not Tome.

He has been quoted, not his been quoted.

I notice in general the most hated people are, ADD AN ':' a the end!

But yes, people act like Billie Joe is an idiot or ass because of the American Idiot album, just use the search bar next time.

Have you actually heard Jack White play guitar? He's amazing. Watch him playing the solo on 'Store Bought Bones' live or listen to 'Icky Thump'. He's a fantastic guitarist. And the great songwriting mind of the 21st century. It's certainly not injust that he 'hit the big time' as he's a genius.

Jack White is a great guitarist!

Just because a guitarist doesn't have the shredzorz skills, doesn't make them a bad guitarist.

You can have all the technical knowledge and still be shit.

Take Dave Gilmour for example, would you call him a shit guitarist?

But I think that Dave McPherson from InMe, and the band Freak Kitchen are genius songwriter's, but they haven't hit the big time as much as I think they should. It's all a matter of perspective.

Dave Gilmour is probably one of the biggest influences in guitar history.
Chances are, that he inspired the 3 the threadstarter mentioned.

Jack White and Billie Joe Armstrong are great musicians. There's no reason to hate them for being successful.

I think guitarists tend to confuse lack of technical guitar skills with lack of musical ability.

Or they just don't care how good a songwriter you are if you don't know how to play. I know I don't because for me the two are synonymous.

Buckethead_jr has it right:
More notes per second = more emotion per second.

Pft.
Jack White is a good guitarist.

Billie Joe... meh, no comment, he writes good songs, I'll give him that.

Tom Delonge... that piece of cumstain can go f uck himself, he uses the same melodies (*cough* Major7th *cough*) in EVERYTHING he does. His vocal melodies are crap, but that's another thing. He just sucks at everything to do with music, simple as that. I agree with you on this one.

That's my point.

He's a great guitarist, yet he doesn't go all shred crazy or anything.

So since he inspired three mediocre guitarists, he must be good? I fail to see the logic here.

Haha, well it wasn't exactly my point, I just wanted to clarify what I meant as I looked at my post and realised it wasn't so clear.

I thought the guy I quoted thought I meant Gilmour was shit.

And Jack White is not a mediocre guitarist. He makes some fucking great riffs! Icky Thump, Seven Nation Army, Dead Leaves and the Dirty Ground etc

What?

If you don't play slow all the time you shouldn't be making music now?
That's news to me.

I could say I'm a better guitarist than Buckethead, but it would still remain absolute bullshit.

Also, I agree with the guy who said Shredding=/=good guitarist.

I was actually being serious...opulence = good musicianship. I can't listen to music unless there are three guitar tracks, a keyboard/piano, and a sextuplet drum beat all going at >160BPM.

Seriously though, I like technical music so in my opinion technically sound composition is good songwriting. I can't get into much else.

Think about it, the more technically proficient you are the better you can express yourself. You have more options as to what you play.
