ok what's the difference between a single ply and a three-ply pickguard. is the 3 ply only thicker ? or is there a difference quality wise ?? any info on this is greatly appreciated !

Single ply is usually just one color. The 3 ply has just 3 layers in which the middle layer is just another color than the outer 2 layers... just for the looks I suppose.

There's really no difference. Just looks. The 3 ply looks vintage.And a single ply looks common

im almost positive that the older guitars originally had the one ply pickguards and the ones today have three. ive never seen a modern or new guitar with 1 unless its a reissue or something like the eric johnson strat.

i could be wrong though.
