other than the chopped chords and crazy-cool rhythm, whatre the main traits behind funk..

and who (dont say james brown) should i listen to/learn to pick this up?

(also are there any songs by ..lets say pink floyd, the dead, beatles, ect.. that are funk-ish?)

In terms of guitar, the guitar takes on an increased percussive role...lots of string scratching, constant 16th notes.

Few chord changes, extended vamping over a single chord, percussive, de-emphasis on melody.

Why not James Brown? James Brown was one of the most prominent funk composers.

Red Hot Chili Peppers are some kick ass funk rock.

And Parliament Funkadelic too.

Awesome bass, lax drumming, and scratchy, wah-wah ridden guitars.

How about Battlestar Scralatchtica by Incubus? An awesome funk-tune.
