i stumbled onto an american guitar site - guitar centre and was looking up the prices of some cool stuff. holy crap you got it good. because of tax we get boned every time we even think about buying a good guitar. a lot of the guitars on the site were half the price of the best deals in england. even the list prices were better than a good deal here.

therefore, im coming to america, where would i be best place to fly to for guitar shops with a large selection of guitars in store. (its gonna be a holiday, i cant be waitin for em to order me one, and im really fussy, i can try 2 lp standards from same year and love one and hate the other.)

i was think new york but thats just because it sounds obvious, sum1 says america, i think ny.

any ideas?

well 200-300 for a plane ticket and then actually having to pay for the guitar. wouldn't it end up being the same?

guitar center does have some great deals. i got about half off on my mockingbird, in stead of 700 bucks i only had to pay 400

i didn't realise that guitars were that much more expensive over there.

or maybe they are just better....

Plane tickets don't usually cost that much.
And a Gibson LP at twice the cost, he'd still be saving a good 800 dollars or so.

unless you're super sneaky and get the guitar back without anyone noticing

you'll get bummed by import duty when you get back here

my friend however, bought a charvel from the US and stuck it in a battered old case and they didn't say a word

not really, return to ny is abot 400. the difference between the guitars can be up to 700, so even if i stayed a few nights, id be a few quid in. plus, i mite buy two and sell one when i get back

think about the importation fees or watever they're called, so you might be breaking even after all

The Tri-State area is pretty good; I remember on my 16th birthday, I went around all day to quite a few really good sized stores.

look up and compare prices on Marshall, Vox, Laney, Engl...

well alright, we have to pay extra for Fender, Peavy and Mesa....and yeah, we more or less get raped on Gibsons (but so do they) and to a lesser extent Fenders. Can't think of any huuuge european guitar companies. Ibanezes and the other japanese aren't that bad either

My cousin managed to buy a Gibson 335 in Germany for half the price as in the UK. That was in the 60's though. He managed to get it through customs without import tax by saying it was a toy!!!!!
