so i just got 2 v-30's put in my cab. I bring it to band practise and I plug all my **** and i crank my amp and i realise its ridiculously trebally and thin. usually i turn my amps volume to half and i realise it isnt loud as it usually was (still pritty loud) i also noticed that when i kept turning the volume there was almost no differnce in the volume after half way.

so pritty much the amp just sounds ridiculouly thin now (no ballz too it)

are the tubes ****ed? is it the 2 v30's?

thanks for any help

i heard you really gotta break in new speakers, especially the v30's but, uh that doesn't seem right.

Maybe check your tubes? Pray to god it isn't your output transformer?

The thinness is probably just because they need to be broken in, but I don't know about the volume.

probably the speaker's input impedance is high? or is that only for pedals.

btw, old/burnt out tubes don't sound thin and trebly. they sound rather fat and muddy.

breaking in the speaker will make it bassier and smoother, but it shouldnt be very bad before its broken in.

learn to read the thread. your friend's mesa's output impedance might be different than ur marshall's impedance now. if it works with his cab, find out the impedance of his amp, then your amp's impedance should be set the same. i doubt its the tubes.

Yeah make sure that you're matching up impedences... or BOOM goes your output transformer.

^nah. that only happens if ur one way. if the impedance of ur amp is higher than ur speaker's impedance the output transformer would go bye bye. but if the impedance of ur speaker is higher, it should probably sound a little thin and bright.

sorry that confused me. i used my Cab with my buddys mesa head to make sure its not my cab thats messed, its my marshall head. the impediance is set the same

also i had the speakers installed by a professional so i doubt very much its the speakers

thanks

^^^ Yeah thats what i meant.

^^No its definetly the speakers. Wood generally doesn't drastically change sound.

Unless the guy who installed the speakers reversed a wire. I'm not sure it would be dramatic but it can decrease low frequencies and make a speaker sound weak. Even pros have been known to make mistakes. Just a possibility. Like others said you better watch that impedance. And they will need some break-in.
#17
ok so i just borrowed my buddys cab and i realized it is my cab thats messing up the sound

is its just that the speakers arnt brocken in?

its had about 1 1/2 hours of play with teh new speakers (@ high volume)and it just makes my amp sound really thin. and when its turned upp i get like some bad muffling goin on

how long does it take to break new speakers in??

thanks for all the help really apreciate it

i highly doubt it's a problem of just the speakers being broken in or not. it's the wiring inside it probably. go check the speaker cab's input impedance.

The left side of the speaker jack says 8 ohms or 4 ohms and teh right says 16 or 8 ohms and i run it in mono

the head can go 4, 8 or 16

what combonation should i use??

i normally do 4 and 4

or is it ****ed from the guy who put in teh speakers?

Didn't he put a sticker on the cab telling the ohms? I'm guessing it is wired as 8 ohms, but that's just a guess.

well... do you know the impedance of the cab?

4 16 ohms can be wired to 8 ohms? no... only 16 ohms or 4 ohms. 16 with the parallel/series wiring, and 8 ohms with all parallel/parallel, and 64 (lol) ohms with series.

No, But I might get a job at my High school $7 an hour, but only work one hour a day. $35 a week is still better than I'm currently getting. Thats, right, I lied about it being my last post! I'm a criminal!

lol but i only get like 10 hours hahaha. but that's still quite a lot.

but the thing is, i never know when i work, and i never can guess how much hours i get. it all depends on how long the swim meet takes. (hoping it takes from 7 in the morning to 9 at night.)

still, i only get the call like once every 2~3 months
