Anyone know the rules on bringing a newly purchased guitar from the states back to the UK? am i gonna get a tax raping etc

Don't post if you haven't got a clue what you're talking about.

Unless you can PROVE that you already had the guitar or that it's second hand you'll get stung....17.5% VAT, 3.5% import duty and potentially any other bits and bobs HM Customs feel the need to add on.

There's an outside chance you *might* get away with it, but unfortunately guitars aren't the easiest things to conceal. If you attempt to get away with not declaring it and get caught you might get fined. Basically, be prepared to stump up another 20% or so...I personally wouldn't risk it.
