Hey everyone,

I scanned through a few pages quickly to see if anyone else has posted this. If they have I apologise. I found out recently that scientists (here in the UK atleast) have now been given the go ahead to create human-animal hybrids in the same way they made the dogeroo and the labradoodle (both of which are scarier than any sci-fi monster). I was just wondering what everyone thinks of this and if anyone has any further ideas to which superior animals could now be created?

I'm just as scared as you are!

Um... totally out of context. They put human zygotes into cow eggs (after taking out cow dna). This means that they won't have to use female eggs (in an attempt to bypass the hype around destroying embryos). It's a stupid thing, because most people opposed to destroying embryos are opposed to this. They're about 99.9999% human, as the only thing different is that the mitochrondria, the 'powerhouses' of the cell which have their own DNA, will be the cow's.
Who reads sigs anyway

I don't think that was the same thing. They were definately talking about crossing humans with other animals.

Yeah, I read about that in New Scientist this week or last week. Personally I'm all for it. I'm too hungover to add a valid reason for this though.

Dear God, do you actually answer prayers?

Yes, but only in a way indistinguishable from random luck or the result of your own efforts.

Okay I'm doubting this very much.

There's tumultuous uproar when people even mention cloning human DNA for medical and surgical purposes. Cross breeding humans with other animals may possibly be acceptable in a few hundred years or so.

Uh... what? This: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/6978384.stm ? It's essentially research etc. for human diseases, not creating human-animal creatures. Jesus they'd never let you do that, assuming it was even possible.

Although since Geordies are going to be doing it you never know

Yeah. See this is entirely different.

In our religeus-binding world, even attempting to use human DNA for gentic science is extremely frowned on, just look at stem-cell research; Bible-basher are complaining it's against the persons/things/stem-cells/humanity's/OJ Simpsons rights. I dunno, i don't really care as science is restricted to Religeon

It's just creating hybrid embryos for research though yeah?

Which is slightly different than creating actual manimals like thread starter was suggesting.

Even if I am wrong about the actual hybrid animals being created, still worth talking about!

If this topic is now about coming up with hybrid animals, I propose the squirrelhawktopus, a flying octopus with a bushy tail. Combines the tentacles and intelligence of an octopus (look it up, they're geniuses), the eyesight and flight of the hawk, and the bushy tail of a squirrel.
