Hi I thinking about upgrading my current head ( Fender fm) with the peavey vlaveking head. The thing is that I wont be able to afford a new cab for a little while so I was wondering if anybody has tried the valveking head with the fm cab and if so how did it sound? Thanks. oh yeah I'll be playing rock/hard rock.

Not to be a jerk, but for your playing, I'd give the peavey Windsor a look too!

Anyways, It will sound better than your current rig, but I'd upgrade cabs eventually. I hear the VK's cabs suck anyways, so they wouldn't be much of an upgrade.

Yes, it will work. The cabs would be kind of a waste of money for a VK, IMO, but if you really like it.

"Good enough" is about right.

In the end, I think you'll be better off with a quality 2x12. Orange is a great choice, but there's cheaper quality stuff out there. Even something by Avatar wouldn't be bad.

I know that the valveking id not the best amp in the world but I know that theres no way in hell my parents are going to let me spend over 1000 on a guitar amp and the valveking is the bets amp that I could find in my price range. I looked at the windsor but that is only a 1 channel amp and I need to be able to us both clean and dirty channels.

Fair enough. Try it out anyways though.

That's why God put a volume knob on your guitar.

If I were you, I'd check out something like this B-52, too. I'd go for a Peavey Classic 30 head long before I went with the VK, but that's a personal choice. I see MF has a Crate V32 "Blem" Head for under $400. Only one channel, but God has already provided for you. That's a great buy.

I know that that site ships to Canada but I would rather buy from a store inside Canada because usually when heavey items get shipped you get hit with alot of duty.

^ Sorry, I was having a wise-ass moment.

I really don't know if it's available in Canada or not.

I'm just really not a fan of the VK. I'd look around for a vintage (Canadian made!) Traynor. Like a YRM or YBA. Those are freaking AWESOME amps that you should be able to get for the same amount of money as the VK, or (probably) less.

I haven't heard of those. The rhythm guitarist in my band just bought the 40 watt all tube traynor and I was very disappointed with it. In my opinion my fm is a much better amp.

What type of music? In my experience the 40w Traynor combo's were excellent for country/blues and that's about it. The Custom Special's are fantastic though, as are the old YBA's.

I like Valvekings, they sound great for blues and classic rock. Here's the thing though. Why don't you check out a VK 50 watt 112 combo, $449? Very portable, and you can run an extension cab. Best of both worlds. Its very close to the same loudness as the head but you can overdrive it a little easier. Truthfully if I was going to buy a head it would not be the VK, more likely a Windsor (I know you want two channels, just saying.) And don't forget the tremendous values on the used market. With a little patience you could get an awesome tube combo.

yeah getting the 112 would probably be a better idea, thanks.
