hi there fellow metalheads!

I'm searching the market for the amp that will be able to produce some killer sounds.... I want a sound/distortion that's heavy like Mnemic, Slipknot, Cannibal Corpse, Children of Bodom etc.

at the moment I have a Marshall MG100HDFX halfstack amp (100watts), which is a damn fine beginners amp, but as things have turned out I'm in need of something with a bit more punch and nice and crispy tone, AND it has to be affordable (Mesa Boogie, Orange, high end Marshall, Krank etc. is to expensive)!!!!!!

so, my dear compagnions, what would you say is a decent metal amp that also is suitable for larger gigs????

I've been looking at stuff like Randall stacks (tube amps at 150watts)...... anyone who has any experience with these????

ps: sorry for the horrible grammer..... I'm infected by a horrible desease called DANISH!!!!!

well, I prefer stacks

I like the sound better when there's a cabinet with 4 speakers instead of a combo with only 2...... it just sounds bigger, if you know what I mean?

Yeah 100w may be a little over the top... Just since he mentioned "larger gigs" and all. Of course, that can mean anything, and if the MG100 did the trick, they can't be too large.

I know, I was just messin' with you

Although to be honest one of the solid state Randalls might be worth a look n this case...i'm not sure what the used tube amp market is like in Denmark but i imagine they hold their value pretty well.

What is your budget (in Danish money)?

well, I just bought a car so actually I dont have any money, but I'm thinking in a price range like 5000-7000 danish crones (900-1300 dollars).......

and guess what I gave for the car...... 54000 (10178 dollars)!!!! sometimes I just want to move to USA...... Denmark is such a expensive country to live in......

Well, if you don't want a combo, you could go for one of these ENGL heads:

http://www.thomann.de/thoiw12_engl_screamer50_e335_gitarrentopteil_prodinfo.html
They're both 50W, but they'll be louder than your MG100. Be on the lookout for used gear as well, you can make some good deals. I just bought the amp in my sig for 7000 norwegian kroner.

do anyone have any experience whatsoever with this amp:

its a Randall RH150G3 stack..... in a review here at UG people say that its kickass, but I'm still to try one out.....

EDIT:
I can buy a complete stack for 6000 danish crones (1130 dollars)

That's a hybrid amp, isn't it? If so, it will not sound as good as an all-tube amp.

yep, hybrid..... my dad has the 100watt combo and its loud as hell, but there's just something about the sound that I dislike..... I want to try the 150watt stack next time I get the change, 'cause my experience is that stacks and combos sound quite differently.....

^ You dont need that power. 50W valve is enough, and you will have a better sound. And if you gig, you can mic it look at the engl thunder, it's a good amp
