hey, gots an epi SG (duh) using a digitech grunge (analogue) into a zoom fire-18 (digital, but good). EQs are like everything 10 bar volume (high about 7-8 on the grunge).

anyway, the tone (at bedroom volumes at least) is kinda lacking for harder rock (i.e. foo fighters, muse, dare i say it....MCR?) i want a little more.....balls to my sound, more gain, more gnarly-ness, moar br00talzzz, whatever.

so.

do i need EMGs? is the basic question.

and another amp is not really an option.

You dont need Emgs for that type of music - seymour duncans or maybe gibson dirty fingers? By the way digtech grunge analoge i thought digitech were all digital hence the digi? Oh well just curious but yeah strongly recommend SDs and i like the dirtyfingers even though there expensive..

DiMarzios or Duncans. Billie Joe Armstrong used an Invader for alot of early Green Day. So did DeLonge in Blink-182. So one of those is a good idea. MCR and Muse use Gibson pickups, as do Grohl, so maybe Burstbuckers if u have the money. If u wanna play something like some heavy-as-possibl metal, then EMG's would work. but u want rock, not death metal. and depending on ur amp, u might need to change that.

if you want tone
then no, emgs give 0 tone
get dimarzios

hahahahaha
Shut up dude, different things require different equipment

I would NOT however, recommend EMG's for that kind of music- they're for more high-gain modern metal

putting new pickups in will NOT change your tone enough to warrant spending that much money when played through digital effects and amplifiers. Save up, get a decent tube amp, get rid of the digitech, and then think about pickups

You need a new amp fella...those little Zoom things are pretty gash, I've played one. If pickups are an option then so is a new amp - besides only one of theose things will change your tone significantly, and it aint the pickups.

thats the other thing. i've built my effects setup around a digital amp with distortion i never use. if i got a tube amp i doubt i'd ever use the distortion. i change settings to often anyway.

That's like making a pie out of cat food - sure, you can do it, but it's not going to give you particularly pleasant results.

Unless you're a cat, obviously.

as per your original specification, more balls can only be achieved well by getting a decent (tube) amp.

the digitalness is always going to give you a thin trebley tone in comparison

yawn. the analogue pedal is doing its job really well, i just want a tiny bit more bite. like hotter pups.....or *cringe* another pedal.

mite try watered down OD to compliment it

i was talking about the digitalness of the amp...whatever tone you pedal gives, it'll be sucked out by the amp
