I was just wondering if there is a wood that is black. Like...really black. If not...what are some ways that I could get a black fingerboard. Is there a dye or paint? Please and thank you!

Ebony is pretty dark. i rly wouldnt wanna paint a fingerboard, but if u had to, then u could use maple, but some finish on it, and clear coat it. but it probably wouldnt play too well.

I remember seeing a guitar that was red and white...and the white design from the body went up the fretboard. Looked like paint, so I suggested it. If I can find the pic, i'll show you.

You would have to stain the wood, that way the finish would be preserved more easily.
Some big companies stain their ebony fretboards black with dark stains.

look at some gibsons, they have ebony fretboards. from what i can tell, theyre damn near as black as natural black is gonna get. nice too, i always wanted an ebony fretboard.

but, i guess they could be stained too. maybe you could stain your rosewood fretboard (assuming thats what you have).

Actually, it's not for my Epiphone I have. It's actually for a guitar build i'm planning out. And Merc, thanks! It is really black. Everything i've seen that people say is Ebony looks like a dark brown.

That's because most ebony is a dark brown, some is even white (uncommon) or pink (extremely rare.) Truly black ebony is rare, most that you see is dyed.

I just did a google image search for pink ebony and got... more than I bargained for.

And my dad was right behind me too... that turned out really awkward.

But seriously, if you get an ebony fretboard and use some of the StewMac black stain, or a comparable stain, it should look how you want it.

That is so sigged!

Also, I found this while I was looking on google. Would any of those be good lengths for a 24 fret fingerboard?

If you're willing to spend $175 on a piece of wood you might get 3-5 fretboards out of, then sure.

Why not get some raw untreated maple and dye it in sections?
Like ebony dye frets 1, 4, ect.
Treat the maple on 2, 5, ect.
Dye a brown rosewood effect on the 3, 6, ect.

Does anyone know of a site that sells pink ebony? As in wood I mean, not female genitalia.

The link I posted sells it, but i'm not sure exactly how long it needs to be for a 24 fret fingerboard.
