Lol we don't have anything recorded yet. We kinda do distorted slap bass with muted guitar riffs and bluesy sax solos while our drummer just kinda does whatever the hell he wants...

That'd probably sound like shit, to be honest.

I play in an instrumental funk-blues-sludge metal band. Is that genre too ridiculus?

An analogy I like to use with music is that it is much like food. When multiple foods are combined, it can either taste very good or horrible to the eater (or listener).

To me:

Jazz and Rock go together great

Blues and Rock work well also

Electronica and Rock also seem like a good combination

However, some genres just go together badly for me. For instance:

Classical and Metal (also known as Neoclassical)

Blues and Dance (I just don't see that ever working)

If you like the way those genres sound together, then so be it. But think of mixing genres like mixing food. Most people won't like Mashed potatoes dipped in chocolate. I'm sure there are some out there that will, though.

Chances are it would fit under another genre, it just wouldn't be as specific.

Almost any band can have it's own genre.

Ex. RHCP

you could call it funk/rock/alternative/mellow/blues, or you could call it funk rock.

Does it sound good? If it does, I guess it's an acceptable genre.

I can't say I'll be joining you though
