I have a Windows Vista Basic (had it for a few months), and I have to say that it is complete garbage. Windows XP wasn't very good either, but it is a cakewalk compared to Vista. It took me 10 minutes just now to open iTunes. It cannot correctly eject an external hard drive, and every once in a while ("once in a while" being every hour) the screen will turn black, and the driver will stop responding for 10 seconds (this has been happening since I've had the computer).

I'm not a huge Apple lover, but there is no way this is better than a Mac.

So if you have Vista, what are your thoughts on it?

Vista is amazing. I love it, and have never had a single problem with it.

Your computer probably just sucks.

Or we are actually using programs that are outside of what is installed on your computer straight from factory? Even some of the ex-Call for Help guys say, in its current state, blows.

i have vista.... its like genital herpes... i hate it... but should've know better before doing/buying it

edit: somebody else made a herpes analogy before?! ... WTF

I use linux, and it works great. Though I hate gaming, linux serves its purpose of web designing and photo editing for me

EDIT: to all vista lovers, VISTA IS FULL OF EXTRA CODE AND IS FULL OF BUGS!
I know, and even if it does run smoothly do you build your own computers? These people were basically forced to use vista.

for chirsts sake vista is not as bad as you people thinK!

Ive had it for about 5 months, not a problem to be found. Honestly, if these so called "problems" arise, then grow up and fix them!

Besides, you probably brought them upon yourselves and dont periodically defrag, or check for viruses spys, etc.

There are some compatibility problems with drivers and whatnot, but they are minor at best.

Im able to play everything that was on my old xp system without problems.

One more thing is that you need a decent computer to run vista.

Are you trying to say that I haven't put other programs on my computer? LOL. Dude, I've put so much on here. Vista has NEVER given me a problem, so I don't see what all the whining is about.

Exactly!

You people find one small minute thing wrong, instantly its "blows this" or "can get shoved in that"

grow up already

i have vista ultimate and it owns ... seriously .. your computer cant be that good if you have that many problems... is it from the 90s? you sure its new enough to run vista? and for the comment about not using any programs outside of what was on it from the factory .. i built my own computer there was no factory so nice try ... vista is arranged a bit differnt and takes some getting used to but ive never had a single problem with it aside from some drivers like my old printer that didnt work with vista but thats probably even updated by now i havent bothered to check

Vista is yucky; wait for a few service packs.

Haha yeah I'm gonna have to go with the majority of this thread and say Vista is unreal.
Ive had it since just after its release and have had not very many problems, in saying that the only problems ive had are just things with compatibility. And there easily fixed most of the time.

Your computer must have a lot of spyware or be extremely bad for those things to be happening. People say its a memory hog, sure it uses a little more than XP but you should of been aware of that before you purchased it.

But one we get the SP2 you can all go eat your XP

To all the people that don't like how Vista looks, you know you can change it so that it looks like 'classic Windows'. XP had the same option.

I have Vista on my laptop, it came on it and I havn't had any problems with it at all. In the beginning I was having a lot of problems and I blamed it on Vista but the real problem was that the computer didn't come with enough RAM stock. Got that fixed and I havn't had any problems at all. It's not always the OS.

+1.

I only have 512 MB of Ram, So its a bit slow at times, but it works fine.

it pwns. especially when you exceed the system requirements = ) I'm pretty sure most people who have a problem with it installed it themselves, that's why i bought a new computer with it already installed correctly. works like a charm

lol @vista haters bandwagon.

I build my own pc , bought a student license for vista ultimate 64bit , and I don't regret it.
Sure some old games don't work, but I didn't buy a new pc to play 7 year old games did I?

I've been using vista for a good amount of months now. I did hate it at first but now i really like it. I do have to upgrade my recording gear though because my old recording card wont have drivers for vista. I'm getting that nice Mackie firewire unit (docking base one).

iTunes takes over computers, I don't use it.

Give vista some time, you'll like it after a while.

My setup and problems:

Laptop - Vista home Pre.:
only problem is the "Safely remove hardware" does not work.

Desktop - Vista business:
- When I rush it a little at startup, the display driver will fail and I'll get a black screen for a few seconds but it will recover without any problems.
- "Safely remove hardware" does no work.

I don't think the hardware remove button work on any vista...

Overall I like vista even though some bugs are in the OS. I really like the layout so all I have to do is hit music or photos in my start menu. The start menu search is also great.

i have vista home premium and its fine....im yet to have problems with it.

ps, the basic version sucks hard. NEVER get the basic version.

edit: The reason i havnt had any problems with it is probably because my computer came with it................I imagine that if u upgraded from xp to vista, you would get major technical difficulties.

I used utlimate for a short while but I have a Nivdia graphics cards and an Nvidia chipset so they don't get along too well. Also, I couldn't run Guitar Pro on it so nuts to that. Went back to XP.

Runs great on my Intel Duo machines though.

hear hear!

Finally I've found another person that actually likes Vista.

TS, did you ever think that your computer specs might not be up to scratch with Vista's requirements?

I'm running Vista, and its faster than my guitar teacher's Mac in all aspects.

I've got vista 64 and the only problem is getting x64 drivers, I can;t overclock my graphics card and it took me weeks to find a wireless driver that works, other than that its okay when you turn off the thing which asks if you're sure you want to do Anything at all

I've used it before, and I liked it. Once the service pack comes out I'm probably going to upgrade, I know my PC can easily handle it.
#34
I have it on a second hd. I only use it to play bioshock in dx10 though. I am far to used to xp and certain features just annoy me. I may give it another go once crysis is out.
#35
its a bit too idiot proof for my liking. i dont like being told not to open a folder incase i delete something by accident.

however, once you get round these problems, i think it works great. can be slow at times (with 2 gig of ram. not sure why that happens)

Yeah I have Vista and I don't see why people whine, it has never gone wrong for me. And the interface is lovely.

The only thing vaguely problem-like I have had is that some older games won't install due to backwards incompatibility (but they have mostly been demos anyway so meh)..
