have you guys seen the new iPod Nano and the iPod Touch. Those are some prety nice mp3's. The classic holds 160GB, whoo teh heck needs that much music! I got a couple of questions about the iPod touch. Do you have to pay for the wi-fi internet. Like to browse on youtube or is it free somehow. Imma thinking of getting the Nano but if the internet is like free or really cheap i might consider the Touch. The touch is so cool, seriously. So leave thoughts and please and answer questions!

Isn't the wi fi just like any other wi fi? You have to be within a certain range of the dealy giving out the wi fi signal in order to use it? So it's free if you live by anyone with wi fi. It's not like you can get internet ANYWHERE with it...
also, I think the wi fi is just so you can browse and dowload songs DIRECTLY to your ipod, as opposed to going through your computer.
just my 2 cents.

I have 90 gigs of music, and about 50 gigs of movies/shows/cartoons/porn, so the Classic is relevant to my interests.
Like podcasts? Listen to these!

so like if you got hi speed internet and a router will you be able to use the wi fi internet or what do u have to do to get the signal. Then once you are out of range you cannot get the signal anylonger. And i take it that you would only pay for the internet (which you already hace) and you would have the signal?

I just got the touch. I absolutely love it! Any questions?

You get the signal from a wireless router. It's no extra charge from your normal internet bill.

Yup. you pretty much have it right. There are other places to pick up wireless, most of your neighbors will have it, and most people are stupid enough to leave it unprotected, and you can jump on theirs. Also, starbucks and mcdonalds, and places like that have free wifi.

how did you get the touch? As far as I know, the Touch will be released on the 28th of September... Today is the 23rd...

WiFi is almost pointless unless it's free (starbucks, mcdonalds, possibly a hotel). It's good for around the house if you have a wireless router, or if you neighbor perhaps doesn't have their router password protected. Personally i'd say just go with the classic it has more memory, and most places won't have wifi, which kind of wrecks the purpose of it.

If you preordered from Apple, it shipped a few days ago. I got it yesterday morning. Some people have had them for over a week now, since Best Buy has been getting limited shipments.

I make good use of the wifi since I'm at college, and my whole campus is wireless, so I get to use it everywhere I go. I highly recommend it to a college student.

Just like a 160GB, but.. smaller.

heres a fun story. my family (mom, dad 2 sisters) went to circuit city last night to exchange my lil sisters mp3 player she got for her birthday as it froze up. and when she tries to get the lil 4 gig nano, i informed her that the classic had 20x more memory for 50 bucks more. when my parents found that out, they just randomly decided to buy me and my older sister ones also.

either my dad is having a midlife crisis, or we hit the lottery and no one told me.
but yeah.

isnt the new touch just an iPhone without the phone part?

I used to actually have too much music; 160gigs is not really practical.

Sure you might think it's cool to have that much but no one has the time to give it justice by listening to all of it properly more than once.

I hope I worded that okay.

160 gigs is ridiculous... But if you like that much music, who cares? If I can get the money to get a 160 iPod, I'd have it full in 2 days. Sure, I won't hear everything more than once for a long time if I leave it going on it's own... But oh well, I like so much stuff it wouldn't bother me. lol

if you've got the money to buy audiobooks, movies, and tons of music, go for it.

My dad works for apple, so he's got one of the iphones(his whole department got them for free), the wi-fi works good in some places but the wireless at my house is crappy dsl and so it doesn't work good enough to load youtube vids but it's good enough to load some websites and good enough for email. I'd agree that it will be good for college students, i'll probably get one before i go to college, who knows what they'll invent in 2 years though.

Yeah I'd like the 160GB model, mainly cause I love listening to Podcasts as well as music and they take up a lot of space, plus it means I can put some video on there too.

My 30GB is full now, so I have to keep taking things off to put new stuff on...

Though the main problem with the 160GB is my old computers. One is Windows98 and doesn't run iTunes, and the one which does only has a 60GB hard drive, so I wouldn't be able to get it all on anyways.

Though on a side note, who here would also be happy to accept a thicker (maybe twice as thick) iPod touch if it had maybe a 120 or 160GB hard drive in it? I know I would.
