the part that connects the knob to under the pickguard has come off. any suggestions on fixing this

you mean the wire? If so solder it back on to the lug where it came off. Or do you mean that the pot has fallen into the guitar leaving the knob on the outside?

the pot has fallen off and its not connected to anything anymore

Can't you just get a washer and push the pot's shaft through the hole and tighten it around the threaded bit? Or has the pickguard broken? If this is the case then you will probably have to buy another pickguard.

But it is probably the 1st thing is it?
