My parents use to think it was a waste of time when I first started playing, but they eventually realized it helped a lot and taught me some major skills.

Now they're happy I'm on it 24/7.

my parents hate it when i play guitar, or th fact i play guitar. they it will intefere school work. sucks because no all a's = no guitar until i get all a's again. andi cant drop out of my AP honors class because my dad doesnt let me, so im struggling for a B right now. and that means nog utiar unless i pick up my grades. god... this sucks... they say i can only play an hour a day now because they say it will get into my mind and make me crazy.at summer i play 4 hours a day. i heard that is usual for mostly everybody serious about their playing. also, my parents said that i should get a career in music but i want since i love it but my parents are asian. yes, they dont understand the RAWK and see no point in music and i cant stand up to them becuase there is a thing called "knockout" for anyone who has seen that vid.

Jack Off Jill's dad seems like a cool dude. My old man isn't a guitar player at all, but he tokes up, so it's only a matter of time before I can get him to smoke with me (whether or not that would be enjoyable is still up in the air).

Ehh, my parents don't think guitar playing is a waste of time, but they're not overjoyed that I play either. Unless my mom is really drunk and I'm playing her Better Man by Pearl Jam.

Yeah.

Yeah.

He is a cool guy. I learned how to play guitar on an Ibanez acoustic that was made before the Japanese took over the company. My dad has had it since the sixties. Actually, I never really wanted to play guitar.. I was a pianist/percussionist, but my drums got stolen from me, and I was playing around with my dad's guitar while listening to Alice in Chain's unplugged record the entire summer. Then I bought the dvd, and I wanted to learn how to play Down in a Hole and Rooster. So my dad showed me the hammer on technique at the beginning of DIAH, and the barre chords from Rooster, and after that I was set.

My dad is mainly a blues player, though. That's not to say that he doesn't appreciate all the styles of music I play. My ears wouldn't be so big if not for his influence. The majority of the bands I listen to came from my dad.. Even Outkast.

It's fun to play with him, too. Because he's mainly a blues player, when I recorded a blues song, I insisted he play on it, too.

This is true, but however, I chose to stay at band practice instead of running around drunk. Drunk at band practice though = awesome.

I mean they dont understand how much time and effort you gotta put it into. I love playing and i dont see putting time into the guitar as a chore, but entertainment, relaxation, just makes me feel good. A lot of people expect playing guitar is simple....never know until their in you shoes.

A wonderful combination that seems to be. I wish pop's and I were that close, but at least I'm working on it.

And I love talking to people in the pit this late (At least around here 12:10). It seems most of the narrow-minded "metal is all that matters" types are gone.

My mom is thrilled because she plays too, and I learn her oldie songs and she sings along and she says it's great because she likes to sing more than she likes to play, so together it's a lot of fun

My dad doesn't like that I play guitar, thinks it's a waste of time, used to threaten to lock it up when I was in high school cause I didn't study enough (although I still made straight A's ). Nothing against me, he just generally hates music.
#24
At first my dad was skeptic about the whole guitar thing, he thought that it was a waste of time and that i would quit eventually. But after about two years of playing he comes up to me and tells me that i've gotten pretty good and that he supports my guitar playing now. He even thinks that i should look around and join a band. Plus my guitar addiction turned out to be stronger then my video game adiction which also makes him happy. Now instead of games i play guitar in my free time.

I'm here all day, I no longer have any social life, what with everyone I know being complete morons. Well.. Unless I'm working. Though, to be fair.. I will argue that metal is all that matters when I'm bored and I'm feeling like I want to argue pointless arguments.

My parents are great about it really. Except when my mum is drunk and tries to make me play generic rock music.
Dad plays lots of awesome folk stuff, wish I could play with his Martin guitar but it's a right handed one. =(
But yeah, its pretty good. My mum reckons I have pretentious musical taste. Well at least my taste is good. :<

My mom hates it whenever I do something that isn't academic.

She hates it when I play guitar or piano.

She hates it when I go out to get some exercise.

She hates it when I socialize.

Yeah, she's a real bitch.

My dad just dislikes me in general. Guitar included.

my perants say its ok for me to play so long as i dont suck. my friend's dad had her playing guitar and listening to ac/dc and deep purple since she was born, and now she's sponsered and she played at taste of chaos *(when she was 11). shows what a little perental encouragement can do.

nope, my parents liked it when i started playing classical when i was 11, although for a while beforehand, my mum was like "are you sure you want to? are you really sure?" Presumably because lessons and a classical are kind of expensive, but i was just like "YES!" every time.
