Basswood is nicer for a sharp tone.

Mahogany body, Mahogany or Maple neck, and Ebony fingerboard. Alder is a good body wood too. Stay away from basswood unless you plan on using EMGs.

Basswood really helps with a sharper tone, EMG's or not. Especially if you're playing thrash, I'm playing basswood and my tone is excellent when I play thrash.

Sharp tone is alder with a Seymour Duncan JB or similar pickup. Basswood does not seem to have the "cut" alder has.

I'd say maybe plywood or mdf. I have heard that they are both great for teh death metal crunchorz lol!!!!!1111eleven11!!1

Naw just jokin. Either alder or mahogany for the body would be your best bet.

Cheap amps are "that bad". They suck up your tone like cocaine at Kate Moss' party.
