What musical genres do you play?

"Crunch" can mean a lot of things.

^I'd let a pro look at it. Once you get into the technicalities of screws...well, it's just a place you don't want to be, friend.

There are some good Marshall for good price, I've heard, but I'm quite new to the stuff.

Crunch is usually achieved with a little distortion and slightly boosted mids, I think? Any amo can do that, however I do suggest you look into the B-52 AT 112 which goes for about your price range. It's a nice tube amp for the money.
