you can't buy sound cards for laptops (to my knowledge)
my advice
try installing the vista drivers anyway

EDIT

and if you tell me the laptop Ill try to find the drivers for you

go to the manafacturer's sites of your hardware, and download all of their windows XP drivers
#5
reformat your drivers.if you can't do that yourself, your best off getting professional help.

haha, the lack of computer knowledge on UG is appalling.

Anyways, I've saved you the trouble and found the driver: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp35501-36000/sp35940.exe

Run the file and restart your computer.

Isn't it?

People need to stop offering up advice they've pulled out of their arse as an adequate solution to any computer-related problem. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't post. Impressionable users with limited computing knowledge (such as the threadstarter) may take you seriously.

Oh, I was referring to that other guy's post. I don't really have a problem with people who are 'not good' with computers--if I did I wouldn't be openly trying to help you. I just found it amusing he was willing and gave advice which was blatantly wrong--and not accurate at all.
