Ive been listening to a lot more of him, and watching videos on youtube, and i see a lot of negative comments about the man himself...

So, what does everybody on UG think of him?

I personally think he's amazing lol. Great skill, and im probably the only person who doesnt believe hes overconfident and up his own arse lol.

I think he is absolutely wonderful.

Me and my dad were gawping at his sig guitar yesterday, so beautiful.

He has a lovely tone, great composer, teacher and artist. I love how melodic his playing is. Yet technical, and knee deep in classical and baroque influence.

Plus he's a ****ing hilarious guy to top it all off, on stage and with all the "donut" stuff

Plus his acoustic skills are Godly.

Oh well people can hate him if they want, their loss.

Malmsteen is a brilliant guitarist.

I have no idea why people make fun of him. They're stupid or something.
Dear God, do you actually answer prayers?

Yes, but only in a way indistinguishable from random luck or the result of your own efforts.
#9
yeah hes awesomely good. not my style too much, but i'd give anything to have his skill and knowledge

i personally prefer Petrucci's playing, but Yngwie's tone can be topped only by Eric Johnson.

^

Alot of the time they can't even name like one of his songs, and it's cause of those stupid parody videos that ARE NOT funny by "adam02" on youtube.

He's a great player, but I find it annoying when he uses the same lick or riff in a different song. I was listening to Blitzkrieg and I was like, waiting a fookin minute, isn't this the same thing in Evil Eye?!
#14
Lol, i know what you mean, but SRV used a lot of the same licks and riffs, but he is still counted as one of the best guitarists of all time

The Petrucci ones are better, and besides, at least he doesnt get **** about it from them. Poor Malmsteen.

There is no: "The Only Yngwie Malmsteen Thread"!

It belongs in Bands and Artists, in Shred. You should make one, then if it grows, you'll be the proud owner of a big ass thread. The pit is for discussions yes, but off topic ones, that aren't covered by the rest of the Forum. Malmsteen can be covered by it. Sorry mate.
#17
Anyone remember the 'Random Facts about Yngwie Malmsteen' thread? Back when everyone was quoting Chuck Norris and Vin Diesel jokes.

I'll see if I can dig up the jokes.. I saved them on my computer lol.
I didn't have a signature until now.

He is very good at playing the guitar.
He is also a cocky prick.
He also can't come up with a remotely interesting melody, IMO. But then again I never really liked ANYTHING to come out of the baroque period of classical music in the first place. And since he basically refers to that period with an electric guitar and distortion pedal, yea...
#23
I think he's amazing technically. And some of his songs are i absolutely adore. and then there are others which have basically the same riff all the time and dont Go anywhere. They grate with me a bit

His tone is good... But it would be better if he swapped those crappy tube amps for an MG.

Yngwie is an amazing guitarist, but he's famous for being arrogant. Even for a rock star. Well, he did pretty much invent the whole neo-classical metal thing (along with Randy Rhoads), but that's no reason to be a dickhead

Jebus christ TS you've had 2 threads in the wrong forum in 2 days.

Using the search menu is all it'd take to find that thread.

I personally cannot stand his music or guitar-playing. I'm sure his guitar-playing is somewhat difficult to play, but in terms of his composing, his guitar-playing is heavily repetitious, often times unoriginal, lacking attention of dynamics, and in my opinion, boring.

This video, to me, has everything I listed about why I hate his guitar-playing:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XN5FAcd2sbM

The repetitious being the fact that he has to play his typical speed styling through 90% of the piece.

The unoriginal (cliche is a better word in the place) being how just about every electric guitarist I see has to put high bends in their music, and Yngwie Malmsteen has to do that 20 times in the piece.

The lacking of dynamics being that when the orchestra starts playing at a mezzo-piano level. To me, although he is playing in the right key, it just doesn't match with the orchestra.

The boring being subjective, so I won't go into that.

Eh, I can see why people dislike Dragonforce. They're a gimmick with very little to offer musically.

Don't get me wrong, I used to be a big fan and I've heard a lot of their albums, which is the main reason why I now dislike them. They're far too repetitive. Couple that with the disappointing live performance I witnessed and it's enough to stop me from listening to them.
Inhuman Rampage just sounded like a collage of regurgitated riffs, licks and vocal melodies recycled from their old albums.

Yngwie, on the other hand, is awesome.
