Ok basically I'm trying to get my guitar based show onto the radio at the station I work on. SO on my show i want to feature amazing guitarists from all different genres and in the next 3-4 months i have to put in a sample playlist featuring the kind of stuff I'd be playing

Heres where you guys come in. It'd be great if you could recomend essential guitarists, tracks and albums(prefferably related to the 80's rock, shred progressive area)
Oh and to kick things off my favourite guitarist is John Petrucci

Coheed and Cambria play some awesome proggy stuff.
Essential album: In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3

Particular songs to check out are:
The Crowing (cause it's proggy)
The Willing Well: parts I, II, III and IV because they rule and The Final Cut has some great soloing potential
Everything Evil (because I say so)
Delirium Trigger (because everyone likes a song in 6/8)
21:13 (because it's the closest any band can be to being Rush and still be original. This epic song is definately prog.)

So yes, check out this band ^_^

And The Mars Volta - great latino influenced prog.
Essential album: Deloused In The Comatorium

Check out Day of the Baphomets, The Widow, Inertiatic ESP and Asilos Magdalena for an awesome mix of tracks.
