Whats your budget?

If you have the money, Maxon OD808 or Ibanez Ts808/Ts9.

If not, the Bad monkey does well, though it eats batteries like a beast.
Guitar:
Epiphone Les Paul Standard
Amplifier:
Fender Blues Junior - Eminence Red, White and Blues
Effects:
Fulltone OCD
Electro-Harmonix Nano Small Stone
Ibanez DE-7 Delay/Echo
Dunlop Crybaby
Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi

but seriously now.

the ibanez tubescreamer can go from a whisper(think crunch i the s4ns eof led zeps since ive been loving you) to all pouit screams(think hendrix´s voodo chile!)

a cheap alternative would be the tubescreamer clone bad monkey from digitech

http://www.digitech.com/products/BadMonkey.html

itr emulates the tone of the ibanez pedal at about half the price

but the real thing is the tubescreamer from Ibanez!
