Am I the only one who hates new bands that wear corpse paint. I mean, it was cool when the first black metal bands did it, and then even the second wave, but it seems it's lost all meaning and now these poser bands just do it to do it and want to be tr00. I mean, didn't they realise the first bands to do it stopped because of what happened to it? Oh well, I think it's stupid.

I agree with you. Immortal and Gorgoroth are the only bands that should be allowed to wear corpsepaint anymore.

yes, and they were part of the second wave too. And Immortal has sadly broken up.

I thought Immortal was getting back together?

'Cause they were just out here a few months ago (I couldn't go, no money).

Really? News to me, I know they still do shows sometimes, but I didn't know about getting back together. *goes to google*

Hmm I couldn't find much, but I didn't look to far into it. All I could find was about Abbaths new band "I"

Well Horgh's kinda been hinting at new material. But since it's only like a few hints in various interviews the touring is what I'd think would be more of a sign.

Even The Cult is Alive fuckin rules! That one normally comes on the rotation around the time of playing Mentors and Razor when having beers/cones/round ones with the blokes hah. One of the best 'head banging' records released in the past few years.

Total beer drinking metal.

yep! and F.O.A.D. is in the same vein!!

they're the only ones doing it properly, who have the same spirit as the pre-1994 bands.

so tell me. are you a fan of Destroyer 666?? they fall into that category of doing it the old way.

hey
any Xasthur fans?

how good is his self-titled?

I like Xasthur... not sure if I have the self-titled though... And to the person above you, I'm pretty sure that Behemoth song is off the Apostasy. Just get that album... I've been meaning too lol.

Immortal, Emperor, Tartaros, Abyssos, Mirrorthrone, Burzum, Dark Funeral, Mayhem, Xasthur, Bathory, Astrofaes, order of the ebon hand, Darkthrone, Satyricon hate Forest, unholy Martimony, Abyssic Hate, Absurd, Absu, Behexen, Morbid, Sabbat, etc etc etc

Hmmm...I would consider Sabbat thrash metal, I never really saw any elements of BM in them. Back on topic, the only BM bands I really listen to often are Immortal, Absu, Darkthrone, Emperor and Bathory.

EDIT: lol sorry I was talking about the English Sabbat, I have never heard Sabbat from Japan

I want to try that while playing the opening riff to "Tempting Time".

so does anyone know the name of the Behemoth song on the website?

The song that plays as you open it and its all heavy and **** is "Slaying the Prophets Ov Isa" which is my favorite song and favorite piece of music that Behemoth has ever released.

The one that plays as you browse is the piano intro to "Inner Sanctum"

my friend has recommended mayhem, are they worth listening to?

Yeah I like stuff like that in my black metal, especially symphonies, but I don't like Dimmu much, not like I did before.

The albums with Dead as their singer.
Its not that I don't think Dead is a bad singer or songwriter, cause he's pretty good at both, it's just that the rest of the band sounds awful on the ones that he was alive to record.

Also, listen to Gorgoroth, Emperor, and Immortal, in addition to as said Enslaved and Burzum. Mayhem's not all that great aside from the album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.
#111
they didn't record any albums with Dead as their singer. they only recorded 2 studio tracks the whole time Dead was in the band. there was 1 official live album released 2 years after he died and a whole bunch of bootlegs ever since.

"Live in Leipzig" is the best Mayhem record. it's got a feral sound and the fact that the band are playing loose works to their advantage. Euronymous could play tight rhythm guitar when he choose to, but his playing on Live In Leipzig is intentionally sloppy. His style was the direct opposite of the death metal guitarists (e.g. Azagthoth, Uffe Cederland), who were all the rage at the time.
#112
Deathcrush is definitely my favorite Mayhem record, for the same reason that it is sloppy and 'feral' sounding. That's why bands like them (at the time), Sarcofago and Razor kick/kicked so much arse. Even the earliest Sodom was as sloppy as a thai hooker. Playing technical and tight doesn't make up for lack of spirit.

Its not "tr00" but the solo in The Eruption is sick. If you count Behemoth, then Coquer All or Slaying the Prophets ov Isa.

There's not many 'classic' solo's in black metal. but it's not about technique or flashy solo's, it's about rawness and spirit. The last thing I wanna hear in black metal is some guy showing off how clever he is or how many notes he can play. Give me a raw burst of noise at the right time.

there's a great solo in "A fine day to die" by Bathory. it's not hard to play its just an attack on the fretboard that comes in at the right time. also, there's some great leads plastered all over "A Blaze In The North Sky".

Burzum's "Key to the gate" has some beautiful guitar work at the end, but it's not really a solo, more a melody over the top of the riff.
