Well the lineup got announced this morning. It seems pretty solid with Rage Against the Machine, Grinspoon and Arcade Fire. I'm really surprised that Smashing Pumpkins and Foo Fighters aren't there though with both of them recently releasing an album. What do you guys think of the line up?

Edit: BIG DAY OUT 2008: Rage Against the Machine, Bjork, Grinspoon, Arcade Fire, Hilltop Hoods, Billy Bragg, Paul Kelly, LCD Soundsystem, Sarah Blasko, Faker, Midnight Juggernauts, Dizzee Rascal, Something With Numbers, Battles, Cut Off Your Hands.

other than Rage it's pretty mediocre IMO

I'm not even a big Rage fan but I know they would give an awesome show. If the Foos and the Pumpkins were going it would be way better.

Wow.

That lineup is TERRIBLE. Except for RATM.

I hope they pick it up with the next announcement, or it looks like another year of me not going to BDO.

Seriously..Bjork?

Bummer. Although Rage aren't playing a show in Brisbane on their tour, so this might be my only chance to see them.

ugh, i hate it how theres only ever one band worth seeing, its hardly worth 120$ to stand around listening to bad music, waiting for the good band to play

EDIT: I just learned that katchafire & shihad are gonna be at the NZ show, i may go after all...

Well Tool did say something like "See you soon" last BDO (I heard, I didn't go)...so it could be possible as they haven't announced a tour.

Not sure about Metallica though...Foo Fighters and/or Smashing Pumpkins are more likely.

Not one single band i'd pay money to see there.. But if the Foo Fighters and Mettalica are gonna be in the lineup.. Im going.
#17
Sigh, I was backstage with Gyroscope and told they were playing.

It seriously better pick it up, I'd only go for RATM and Billy Bragg.

I've only heard of RATM, Grinspoon, Hilltop Hoods and Bjork (and I don't like Bjork) so...

I'll wait till more announcement but it's look rather shocking.

Most of the rest are bands that are mildy popular in Australia.

The next announcement better feature another big act or two.

Nope, not convinced I'm going.. But they always get my favourite bands in at the last minute. Last year they got in Cog after all the tickets had sold. Bastards

Maynard did mention about seeing us again soon last BDO, but nothing has become yet...

I ****ing hate it, i want a ****ing ozzfest or download festival.

But thats never going to happen, instead we got BDO...Which generally has 1-2 big names and the rest are ****.

God f*cking dammit, i actually wanted to go this year, but this line up is worse than home and away!!! only decent band up there is RATM and its not worth it going just for them.

maybe someday australia will see something like download festival...*hopes*

Yeh, i saw it on Channel V today. I was pretty unimpressed with the lineup, so i most probably will not be going, unless they come up with a couple other bands that would suit me. RATM would be wicked, but still.

The metal festival in Australia sounds like a wicked idea, i vote we start one

Why Bjork
But there's no sense crying over every mistake, you just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Victoria Ska Festival, dummy.

Plus Calgary used to have Uprise fest, but it didn't happen this year. Not sure why.

Calgary and edmonton both have huge folk festivals, as do most major cities I think.

In montreal there's a festival like every week during the summer.

I saw Gogol Bordello at Ottawa Blues festival

There's like a bajillion more in lots of different places, but those are just some examples right off the top of my head.

Also, people who are saying the lineup isn't good other than RATM have obviously never heard of Billy Bragg or Bjork...

2 words..... MEH TAL \m/ I'm not really interested in billy bragg or Bjork. Call me a stupid, ignorant child who has no musical taste...but I think a lot who have replied on this thread are the same.

BDO is a real disappointed for me, i was hoping for more metal bands...in future line-ups, but this year has proven me wrong. It's a real shame we don't have a big Metal festival thing with big name line-ups...such as WOA, Ozzfest or Download. I'm guessing the market isn't big enough?

Yes at the Sydney show Maynard shouted "see you next year" at the end of their set.... I very much doubt they will be back 2008 though,.,..

I am going no matter who is playing, its generally a good day and you find out about some pretty good unknown bands.

Rage Against the machine should be awesome and also Hilltop Hoods.

I still think that QOTSA are a likely band to play and possible on the next annoncement.

I hope Bjork doesn't play before RATM.

Doubt Metallica or TOOL will play even tho TOOL did say they would see us at the end of the year..
#39
Second announcement will have good bands. Tool were possible going to come back for another tour, but Danny Carey fucked up his arm and they postponed all their tours about 5-6 months ago.
