Well I am going to enter a guitar solo competition. It's being judged by Johnny Marr from the Smiths. (Who is this guy? What kind of guitar does he play....ie. virtuoso?)

If my nerves don't get the better of me, I will probably enter. I am just wondering, do you think they will look for original stuff? I was thinking of a medley of some classical, then maybe some Paul Gilbert, and then a nice solo like Glasgow Kiss or something.

Any input guys?

HAHA.

The Smiths are an extremely boring 'alt-rock' band for wankers.

Haha...ok so....

Do you think some Fur Elise be Beethoven, then the rhythm from Mount Fuji Christmas by Paul Gilbert, and the solo/improv from Glasgow Kiss will do the trick??

i enjoy some of the Smiths from time to time too.... they actually have quite a good following (mostly from the 80's) i would say go for originality. i'm not going to say their guitarist is gilbert/malmsteen good, but he's pretty good for what they do. i wouldn't try too hard to impress with going fast and stuff like that, i'd go for what sounds good regardless of how technical it is.
