So I love this genre, but I'm having a hard time finding songs I can play. While I hope to eventually be able to play songs like Round and round, i need songs to start on to progress my skills with first. If anyone can recomend me some skill building songs, it would be appreciated.

Hopefully these songs can help me:

1. Learn sweeping.
2. Improve my general speed.
3. Improve my playing ability for this genre.

Easy stuff, but no power chord only songs.... Thx.
My current ghetto setup:

Crate VC508 (Needs new speaker and pots BADLEY.)
Fender R15
Peavey T-60
Original LPB-1
BBE Sonic Maximizer (rack)

Early metal and no powerchords? Try Black Dog by Led Zeppelin, great song filled to the brim with the good ol' A pentatonic minor
Weird Al = Awesome
Buckethead = Awesome
Ergo, Awesome = Buckethead = Weird Al

What bands are you into?

Bands along the line of Van Halen, Poison, Judas Priest and RATT, but also stuff like Alice Cooper or Kiss and Dio.

AKA: Glam/Hair metal and Hard rock I guess to be more specific

There you go then, play stuff by them.

And get used to powerchords as their material is chock full of them. If you want some easier bits to play try Every Rose Has it's Thorn by Poison, Rock and Roll all Nite, Doctor Love and Strutter by Kiss, You're in Love by RATT, Breakin The Law and Living After Midnight by Judas Priest ...for starters

Forget sweeping for a LONG time...that's a year or two down the line.

if your into those bands, youd obviously have to start with blues based music.

poison and ratt are ok, but you would be better off with skid row (has some prety decent guitar work), possibly even motley crue (for catchy riffage from the earlier efforts eg live wire, shout at the devil)

try checking out saxon, samson. also bands who use alot of guitar harmonies like wishbone ash, or thin lizzy. judas priest also use a fair bit of guitar harmonies

Panama by Van Halen
Screaming for Vengeance by Judas Priest
Holy Wars... The Punishment Due by Megadeth
2 Minutes to Midnight by Iron Maiden

Those should keep you busy and roughly fit within your music constraints. Good luck!
