I remember my first erection. I went to my dad and was like "Do I have Aids???". I seriously thought there was something wrong with me.

...I would go w/ Gibson...but its the $$$ thats the problem...this is probably why Epiphone was created.

Alder tops don't sound like carved-maple tops used on Gibson LP's. It says the back is mahogany, bringing up the question whether or no the entire body is solid mahogany. Look at cheaper Epi LP's for better and more verifiable specs. Check out the plain top. Cheaper and possibly a better guitar. Don't go on looks alone.

Don't bother with pickups just yet. Anything will sound good through a marshall tube(im assuming it's a tube)

You might want to check out this if you want a les paul

I'd say a LTD 400 series , A viper or a Eclipse would suite you ( the evil twins of the SG and Les Paul)

Newer Epiphones are made to Gibson standards. That means solid mahogany bodies, Maple tops (if available), Grover tuners, etc. The only difference is the quality, craftsmanship, and QC of the guitars.

For the threadstarter, I'd look for an ESP LTD-400 series, as the guy above me said. And for tunings from Drop C to Standard, I'd get a hard tail. Perhaps some heavier gauge strings will fit you well too. I prefer GHS Boomers .11's, but just go to a store and grab a bunch of strings and try them out.
Bands to see before I die:
Iron Maiden
Foo Fighters
Megadeth
Reel Big Fish
Rush
Streetlight Manifesto

Gear:
Epi LP Standard
Washburn Strat
Line 6 Spider (Yes, I know it's bad)

GAS:
Ibanez RG3570Z
Digitech Whammy

These are just some examples that are available. Look through all the carved top solid bodies in your price range. To get to more Micheal Kelly's you will have to type it in the search bar.

Usually they will say carved top, which is usually a piece of maple (on the better guitars about 3/4" thick or so) carved so its curvy (arched) glued on to a solid body (usually mahogany.) This combination is what gives a Les Paul most of its characteristic sound.
