Right so I'm taking a construction tech course in school and we have to think of a project to build. So I thought what the hell, I'll build a guitar. Depending on how well it goes...I can try and get it to work, but my main idea is just to make it look realistic and hang it on my wall or some sort of room decoration. So basically what I'm asking is what type of wood should I use for the guitar? Price isn't really an option as I won't be using much, I'm just not sure exactly what would look best. I'll post pics when I'm done if anyone's interested but it'll be a while so I'll most likely forget.

Plywood for now, b/c its cheap, and trying to do some things like routing will be easy to once youve practiced a bit. And cutting wood like Mahogany will seem easy compared to plywood apparently.

Right I forgot to mention in my post I wanted it to look like an electric guitar, not an acoustic. Sorry.

Experience isn't a problem either, I can really find my way around a shop so if anyone has some nice pictures of nice guitars I could build would be great.

The easiest stuff to get is either alder (Strats are typically built from this) or Mahogany (think Les Paul).

I used a company called Mammoth Guitars for my first project. They stock both for a reasonable price. Another option is eBay. You can always do a search on "body blank" and turn up a bunch more vendors.

projectguitar.com has a load of good tutorials... aslo are you building your own neck? For the guitar Im building I used 4 pices of poplar for the body because it only cost $15 and it has similar tone characteristics to alder.
