What do the different bands on an Equalizer do, particularily the Boss GE-7?

The thing is fun to mess with, but I have no clue what the different numbers mean, or what which ones do.

What would be a good setting for a Clapton (cream style) like tone (like "sunshine of your Love" or "Crossroads", or a Blues tone with high mids?

And where should I put the EQ? Right now it is behing my Distortion (DS-1) which is behind my Wah, I like the tone of the Wah infront of my dist. I wanted it to clean up my Distortion, but will it boost mids better if it is front of the Distortion?

if anything i'd put it in the pre-amp, if not last in the FX chain.

the slider to the furthest left is the lowest frequency, they get higher as you go right.

the numbers are different ranges of frequency. the only way i know to explain it is... your amp devides sound into 3 settings.. say a 6 band EQ is just 2 for each.. i'm not sure if i'm explaining it right.

so to boost your mids you would up the ones in the middle? like around 800?

and by in the preamp you mean the FX Loop of the amp?
