Okay, so I got new strings today. (yay!!) My old ones were all grimey and gross, so I was like "Forget this, I'm just getting new strings"

Well, I put them on. (yay!!)

and as I was tuning, I thought I was tuning on the sharp side, but I just kept going.

Well, my e string snapped on me. Then when I went back to check the string right before it (I just tuned the E and went up from there) I realized I was way WAY sharp. And now I have a cut on my finger, but I can't really be mad because it was my fault that I wasn't tuning it the right way.

So I just went back and loosened all my strings a bit.. just to be on the safe side..

Has this ever happened before to anyone? Brand new strings then one just while tuning/playing on them the first time?

usually normal people check. but yes, it has happened to me too haha but never cut myself
#3
idk but the high e string will break if you stick a 9V battery on it.

also yes something (sorta) like this has happened to me.
I don't know why Mac users get so defensive when you call them idiots. I mean, Apple is a company that has built its entire user base around the fact that its users can't do simple things like turn their computers on.

yeh that happened to me just stretch the string if that makes sense it also makes them not go out of tune so quick

A little off topic but one of my friends said that once he snapped a high e string and the end stabbed straight through his thumb and out the other side and he had to go to hospital and everything. He talks a lot of **** though so i don't know...

Strings don't snap that hard. When they snap on me I barely get a cut like a paper cut. Sometimes I don't even get cut, just whipped ha

New strings have to be stretched, if you tune them to pitch to quickly they are in danger of breaking, especially the plain strings. It would also be wise to invest in an electronic tuner, if your ears aren't that great (like mine).
#11
Yeah.. there's no way that could've happened.. Your friend is like my friend.. always sayin' stuff just to say stuff...

Even if he might've got stabbed, it would've never gone all the way through.. just a little poke.. like when they do blood tests at the doctors.. only less.

well, I used a tuner to get the low E, but then I just went up from there without the tuner.. >.< I was kinda doing it quick too..

I didn't know they had to be stretched though.. I'll remember that when I get new strings.

When I first tried to string the guitar by myself, the string snapped on me. I didnt realize how sharp it was. That's why I always strum the string when it starts getting even remotely tight, so I can tell if it's in pitch.

****! i hate when that happens. I've never been cut from a string but the other day I bought a pack of new elixirs and the ****ing high e snapped on me when i was putting it on. god i was so pissed cuz they dont sell those individually. man you just made me angry again :@!
#15
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to!

I hate how thin the 'e's are (even though you kinda need it... lol).. if they sold any individually, they would definatly make a profit off that particular string.

It kinda makes me wanna play bass forever.. lol. Those wont snap as easily.

The worst thing that ever happened to me stringwise...I had a plain G string, about .22 or so, it wasn't trimmed down very far. The guitar was in the gig back, I pick it up by the headstock, the string went trough my thumb. It hurt like hell for about a week or so.

ive had a high e snapd and "stabbed" my finger, it didnt even bleed =P

i do it like, tune to D, play some songs, then tune to F (if such thing exist, just half step higher on all strings) then leave it, on the other day tune to E and play, never snaped one tuning

I found THE most wonderful thing in the world..

Well, the brand of strings that I buy (Ernie Ball) actually sells single sets of strings in 6 packs and 3 packs. For only 3 bucks.

I'm in love with GuitarCenter.com for providing me such wonderful information.

Now my finger doesn't hurt so much, knowing this. ^.^

*jaw drops* Oh my.. that makes me cringe just thinking about it. I'd be scared of ever tuning anything again if I did that..
