I want to buy a new electric guitar. My budget is about £300-£400.
Any suggestions?

Go with an Epiphone or Squier, probably. Personally I definitely prefer Epis to Squiers, but whatever you want. Try an Epi SG.

Save for a better amp.

what kind of music do you play? and how good are you?

I play Gun's N' Rose's, AC/DC, Beatles, Hard Rock, Heavy Metal.
And I'd say in a scale of 1-10 I'm 7-8.

New amp first. You already have a semi-decent guitar to work with, try a better amp?

Is there any black people on UG?
I don't think a lot of black people play guitar anymore.

try the no-namers in curly's. £120, basswood body, decent hardware and a really nice neck.

they're better than MIM fenders and as good as some MIA ones too.

there are strats and teles and at one point they had les pauls.

give them a try. With a pickup change, they could be awesome.

It will be hard to get one guitar to do all those bands well, so a good compromise is probably a Fat Strat (MIM.) Both your current amp and guitar are not great (not being insulting, you already appear to know this) so you may want to upgrade to a better amp.
I would try to budget out $200 USD for a 5 watt tube combo, a little for a distortion pedal, and the rest on the guitar. If you can go with all my recommendations (sorry I don't know the currency conversion) you will have a great-sounding rig that no one will critisize (at least no one who isn't a gear snob.)
