He uses one finger on his picking hand, but you don't need to play it the way he does. Depending on your technique for dealing with a pick when you tap, you could use certain other fingers. If you still hold your pick with your thumb and index and usually tap with your middle, then you could get your ring finger do tap on the D while your middle does the stuff on the F. The hardest part of that to me is getting a good hammer-on for the 12th fret D with my left hand, but we all have our own little things that screw us up.

I find it easier if I use one finger to do the tapping. I do it the way Mike R. does it, with the index finger. Try practicing each position slowly, you'll get the shifting w/ time...

i made a thread on this like a couple months ago, for the notes on the high e string in that part you pretty much have to hammer on from nowhere which is very difficult to get the notes to sound (at least for me) and the other string part is just normal tapping with pull offs and hammer ons

Oh my, I'm learning that bit at the moment too

I find it easier to tap the E string tapped notes with my second finger, and the G string with my first.

Romeo taps it all with his first finger though. =/

^yeah it kinda sucks that you didn't amp up, and i still find it hard to hammer on from "nowhere" on the high e string, maybe if i had lower action it would be easier?

Am I the odd man out here? Tap the G string with my middle, and E with my ring finger.

Still getting the speed down, got the pattern pretty much down though. Taking a break though, arm's feeling funny.

With hammer-ons and pull-offs. Now I was wondering, does it matter if I play 8 on C instead of 3 on F, and if so, which way should I play it, and which way does Michael Romeo play it? Also, should I use hammer-ons and pull-offs or pick each note individually, and which way does Michael Romeo do? Thanks.

The first one is the way Romeo plays is, can be seen in his video...
The second one is the way LePond (SX's bassist plays the riff), since he has a bigger stretch...
The third one with legato is a nono, might get close to sounding right, but you really need the pickattack to make it sound right. Pick every note in that riff

Right, thank you, cause I've seen two tabs and they both had the little runs on one string and one of them had legato. I shall pick everything and play the run the way I've been playing it. Cheers.
