They're suspended chords. If I remember correctly, a sus2 is when you replace the third interval with the second, sus4 when you replace the third with the fourth, etc. Don't quote me on that though.

^ You're right. A major chord is 1 3 5, a minor chord 1 b3 5. A sus2 chord is 1 2 5 and a sus4 chord is 1 4 5. Sus2 chords are sometimes just called "2" chords, eg G2, A2. Sus4 chords are sometimes just called sus chords.

Its actually _7sus4 chords that are just called _sus. The formula for a _sus chord is: 1 4 5 b7.
