does anybody know some riffs or titels in that you use the thumb of your left hand like in jimi hendrix "hey joe"?

Well, jimi used his thumb in quite all his songs, he didn't take barre chords, he did all his chords with his thumb.
John Mayer does it too, check out neon for example

You can do it in loads of songs, just because the original artist didn't do it it doesn't mean you can't.
