Can you get Distortion from this amp at lower volumes by a pedal or something? just curious cause i heard it doesnt have a Gain knob.

all you get is the solid state distortion the pedal gets you. with no master volume, only way for you to get overdrive is to turn it up, or use a pretty damn crazy attenuator.

Get OD of some sort, maybe a Tubescreamer or similar and use it as a boost. Turn the level knob up and you get "real" overdrive.

The best thing would be to crank it up. So an attenuator would be useful too for doing it on lower volumes.

^it doesn't even have a master volume. so boosting the volume isn't gonna make the tubes break up. the tubes are gonna be running ice cream cold.

or get a master volume plexi clone that's not from marshall. but that only gives you preamp distortion.

so attenuator would be quite nice, but cranking is the best resulting sound.

18 watter.

Why?

The 1959 is a LOUD LOUD EXTEMELY HUGELY OVERLY LOUD amp (having owned a 1987, the 50 watt one I can garantue this, sicne I had to sell it since it was too loud). Even if you have an attenuator, you will loose much of the tone at too low volumes. And with master volume you will only get preamp distortion. A Plexi never sounds like it should with ONLY poweramp distortion. Therefore get an 18 watt TMB. It's loud enough to be gigged with, no doubt. But it will be much easier to overdrive and get that Plexi tone.

^Gabe knows his stuff
if you are going to get it and just attenuate it (ie. distortion all the time, atleast get a lower wattage amp)
the 18 watt would be nice
i got teh 50 watt and got nik to install a what he calls ppimv master volume
it comes after the poweramp i'm told
freakin best amp i have ever touched

Yeah. Gabe's right - that amp would take your head off.

You will get preamp gain if you boost it enough.

btw on that site you gave me Gabel there are three 18 watters. what is the difference between them? and is that 36 watter a plexi?
