I like to mess around with feedback a lot, but occasionally I just want a clean distortion channel. Especially when I add a bug muff to my already maxed out gain channel. Is there like...a pedal version of a noise gate that would cut it when I want it, but I could just stomp it and have the feedback back.

Are you looking at a noise gate or a noise reducer. Both have the same outcome but their ways of doing so are much different.

Noise gates cut signal when the input signal drops below a certain volume, and noise reducers actually take the hum, hiss, and buzz out of the line.

Noise reducers are more practical, and a little more effective. Noise gates can be used to tighten up your tone (make it bolder) but can kill sustain.
