Detune or downtune?

Detuning doesn't seem like it would sound very good.
#6
Yeah downtune, and maybe 1/2 step.
My Setup

Guitar-Jackson Dinky *Black*

Pickups- 2 Seymour Duncans

Tremolo- Floyd Rose

AMP- Line 6 Spider II

id say a halfstep if you like doing more 80s sounding stuff

but if your riding that modern metal wave id say a whole step or so

I'd say Drop C, step and a half down I believe. It's nice and low but still sounds nice for playing melodies or just riffs and stuff. Two whole steps is two low in my opinion.

Mastering your instrument is being able to play whatever you hear in your head, unhindered by inadequate technique. After that, it's all about what you've got to say, so there would be no "best," just a bunch of people saying exactly what they mean.

D standard (1 whole step) is sufficient for any metal IMO.

Standard is sufficient, if you use inverted power chords, but if you must, drop D should work. or basically anything comfortable.

I don't see any connection here
Do whatever you like.
^ seconded.

Standard should be good enough, look at Dragonforce, Opeth and Metallica, I'd only go as low as 1 whole step
To a shredder, a second is a long time.

Do whatever you feel like, but not downtuning at all sounds like the best option...especially for most material
