harder than I thought it was going to be! I figured ill buy an sm57, art mic preamp, my laptop and im done. Microphone placement? Clipping? Output Peak Level? and then all the gain boosts and phantom power?

LOL wtf is all this stuff?!?!?!

I'm not trying to record a CD here or become the next studio guru. I just want to be able to capture my amp's sound in a way that sounds approximately close to how it does in real life. Please point me to the direction of some threads or websites that can teach my noob ass how to record.

Oh...I forgot to mention that I am using the Windows Sound Recorder option. Could this be the problem? It's really crappy to be honest.
