ive been playing guitar properly for about a year and a half and am struggling to construct a solo. if i try to improvise it al sounds the same. can anyone suggest any way to change this.

try basing it on a solo or riff that you like. For instance John Frusciante based his Dani California solo on Purple Haze by Hendrix (if you listen you can see what i mean)

Learn your scales, make sure u know them in different keys and be able to play them all over the neck. You'll have no trouble after that.

If you play a year and a half just use a scale. Best way is just to get them major key of the song and then get the scale. Example: Major key is B then use an E scale but just 5 frets down. And try to make it not so long.
