The point of this thread, or how it was pitched to me, was not to be a complete huge mighty list of just ska bands. It is a brief overview of what ska is, meant for someone new to ska.

If we started making this an almighty ska bands list, then the almighty punk/ska list is pretty much ruined. And that was a ton of work on a lot of previous mods parts. I'm not taking that away from them.

You're right. We just wanted it to be a overview of the genre and a starting point for people who don't really know were to start. It's pretty much a thread to stop all the "just getting into ska" threads.

Yeah but if there are a couple bands that NEED to be added, I'm fine with that. I don't want this thread to be a list though.

^Suggest some and we'll add it. Ska punk/punk-core is the weakest section

Oh I thought you meant to add more to the ska core section.

I don't listen to much. The Suicide Machines are pretty good

I've seen some old 1st wave ska videos on youtube before and they were "Skanking" I guess. It was like a real, slowed down version of what skanking is seen as today.

This would've made finding Ska bands about a thousands times easier when I started getting into it. Thanks a lot.

Maybe we should do one for punk as well, because it's still quite hard to pick stuff out from the punk/ska list

Does no one else think The Clash were an important Ska Band?
If the doors of perception were cleansed all things would appear as they truly are.....infinite...

The Clash were not a ska band. They were a punk band, but they played ska, dub, and reggea songs. They only experimented with these genre's.

that means nothing, they were still very important to ska as a genre, they brought it forth to alot of bands that otherwise would have never heard of it, THE SPECIALS for instance, their biggest influence was the clash, now are u gonna tell me the specials werent a ska band??, I asked if they were important to ska

You did to say they were a ska band

They were probably even more influencial to ska punk than they were to two tone/2nd wave.

I don't think I misunderstood, I think you made a mistake and I called you on it. So now you're trying to cover your ass

There is a definite Clash influence of some of the Specials songs, but that doesn't mean they deserve to be mentioned in the first post. This is Ska for n00bs, it's meant to be a general over veiw of ska for new listeners. It's not supposed to be a detailed history.

i highly doubt the clash were a bigger influence than bands like the maytals or prince buster were on the specials.

We are ugly, but we have the music."

/r/ing a good ska/whateverthe****2toneis band. I'd prefer something older and less punk but it doesn't matter as long as it's catchy and danceable.

Quick question. Would Sublime be considered Ska or Punk or just something else entirely.

for newbs check out reel big fish, mighty mighty bosstones, less than jake, catch 22. If these seem to energetic or fast for ya, slow it down to raggae. Some sublime slightly stoopid, pepper, 311, might be the way for ya. If you don't like raggae or ska, you probably suck.
