I ****ed up my MSN somehow. It won't start. When I double click the icon, the little sand watch (I forgot the real name of the thing) next to the pointer arrow appears for a second and nothing happens. My task manager says that msnmsgr.exe is running, but that's the only sign of it being on. No windows appear.

I think it might have something to do with the fact that I put cyrillic writing in my personal message.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance folks!

This sig was too fucking big. Make it smaller next time, chief.

I had the same problem. It's got something to do with the registry.

Pretty sure you want to delete a registry entry for Messenger, but it will take away all of your settings.

Mine does that sometimes.
Just press Ctrl+Alt+Delete, got to Processes, then click on msnmsgr.exe and End Process.
Then open up Msn Messenger again.
Works for me

Do you happen to know which one, exactly?

Looks like a correct answer here!

It happens to me too, I go to the task manager, end process, then try to open I again without moving the mouse or doing anything. Then it usually starts. Could take a few tries though.

Ok, I've reinstalled it 3 times already and it doesn't work.

Everyone on the internet is talking about a certain 'policies' registry entry, but I don't have that one. Seems like something already deleted that one. Yes, I'm looking at the correct directory and everything.

What would happen if I was to just delete ALL the registry entries under MSNMessenger and then reinstalled MSN?

EDIT: Bass poet's solution doesn't work
