A "blem" model is a blemished model. That mean's it's got some kind of cosmetic abnormality, such as a finish scratch or a dent.

would there be anyway to figure out how serious it is before i buy it?
or is it like a surprise???

Usually the blems that MF sells have only minor imperfections. Sometimes you can end up with something that was returned by someone else, but otherwise flawless. But no, they don't disclose what the blemishes are beforehand. Luckily they have a good return policy, so I'd be willing get a blemished unit if the price was right. I wouldn't bother if you're really anal about cosmetic issues.
