This amp is seeming like a bludy dream come true! I mean the wattage and the fact that its a pignose and plus its an all tube amp.....is it really all that great or are there any strings attached.

I intend to play: Classic Rock

Led Zeppelin
The WHo
Pink Floyd
Jimi Hendrix
SLASH
SLASH
SLASH
GNR

Will this get me that tone?

Most importantly........is it better than Vox AD30VT? or is it a minor tone difference
(I know VOX is a combo....but then too..)

is it the g40-v ? if so i've played one of those, quite nice considering the ridiculously low price, i didn't have enough experience with it to really say just how good it is though

lol, why are you comparing it to a $300 SS vox?

I would say a Plexi or JCM800.

It's as natural for a guitar player to be obsessed with tone as it is for a painter to be obsessed with colors.

i think tone is something that is very personal and everyone has their own preference, their own ear, and their own sound in their head that they're trying to acheive

My deepest apologies to everyone. Somehow the link didn't register in the post and I overlooked it.

I am talking about this amp.

Are Pignose amps worth it? in general...

and my budget is around US$400

I haven't played the amp personally. Hard to quibble with it at that price. Reviews I've read are similar to reviews of the Peavey Valveking - in that it's ok as is, but much better after a tube and speaker swap. A brand new 40W tube amp for $320... ? Impressive.

Still, with $400, I'd look for a used Fender Hot Rod or Peavey Classic 30 instead.

If they're in that pricerange, i'd go for them, I tried the Classic 30 properly last week and was astounded at how versatile it actually was

Can it play those genres I spoke about?

And how is it in comparision to a Vox AD30VT? Or a Epi VJ sound?

look to a vox man, the vox ad30vt is a good amp, underrated, i know its not a tube amp, but it loud and has sick tone, and i think it part tube or somthing, or a valvetronix not sure what that is, but its a sick amp thats for sure.
#25
i think the Crate Palomino V16 would be a nice amp for him. its got a bit of a fuzzy natural overdrive (zeppelin+hendrix), good cleans (who), takes pedals nicely especially modulation (pink floyd), and its got a british/american hybrid voicing in my opinion. i can't imagine why it wouldn't do slash. with the right setup, it should hold up to ur specified tones, and it would definitely hold up with a drummer. it would even drown out ur drummer too.

Used!

I'm not familiar with Mumbai prices, but both those amps regularly sell for under $400 on the used market in the States.

I agree, but the Pignose seems like a killer amp for the price! Check it!

Based on what? It's a mediocre amp for the price. Maybe 'the fact that it's a pignose,' like you referenced in your first post? Pignose isn't exactly a quality brand. I'd look at all the other amps everyone is mentioning.

^I did. +1 the crate, it does have that fuzzy 60's supro-ish OD. Cool little amp.
#33
+1 on the Palomino.

The Pignose actually used to sell new at around $80 less than what it sells for now. It was a steal back then, because you could use that extra money for new tubes and a speaker. At this price, it's still nice, but not as nice

I personally thought the pignose held it's own, my something or other cousin (one of those ones that pretty much arent related) has one but he lives in edinburgh so i can't go check it out again til halloween. but i honestly thought it was nice, then again my experience with amps is limited seeing as it's only been 2 months since my discovery of the wonders of tube. but i've been playing ever amp i can get my hands on to death

it was quite warm, nice cleans and a decent overdrive. a pedal may be required but i didn;t push it to it's limits

also +1 on the palomino, i've only heard clips but they sound very nice

Sick = Good

Get with the times man.

I've read alot of harmony central reviews on the Pignose, and based on them, it seems it has good tone but poor quality control and reliability. Which isnt surprising when you consider the price.

Pignose amps are not that great.

If you're living in Mumbai, I'd look at Bhargava's and see if they can hook you up with a Peavey.
