For some odd reason, ive been watching TRL alot. And after watching several rly dimb videos, like the Shop Boyz "Party like a Rock Star,"and now a new Ludacris/R.Kelley video, I think that Rappers have no right to call themselves that. Being a Rock Star doesnt rly exist too much like it did, like Joe Perry or Slash. Rock Stars now are ppl like Kid Rock (not my favorite) and Pete Wentz (:puke, who are just models who can hold instruments (my opinion, and is Kid Rock even a guitar player?). When will the Rock Star or rock Guitar God come back? and i dont mean shredders that have overpopulated Metal, i mean ppl who are good at riffs, rhythms, can play fast, as well as with feeling (Slash is the best example of that). When will Rockers come back and why do Rappers feel like filling in for em?

Glad to get that off my chest.

thats your problem. dun watch TRL, and you won't have to deal with these tarts. and dun listen to popular music on the radio. listen to country if you have to. its better than pop. like actual country.........

and the guitar god i dun think will make a comeback, at least not in the forseeable future. sorry m8

The old model Guitar God is dead. Build a time machine and go back to 1975. I've got flux capacitor schematics if you need some help.

10-4 to that man.
Although not one of my favorites I did see Kid Rock live on Much Music once (Canada's Version of MTV) and I have to say He puts on a good show.During one song He was running around playing the guitar then switching to Keyboards and then to drums.
I think the shredding thing will die down a bit and people will discover good old rock n roll again. A solo with only 4 notes can be just as effective as one with 100 it's all in how you use them.

I don't really like Kid Rock, but he does write all of his music, and perform a good bit of it.

Oh, and don't watch TRL. That's your problem right there. TRL is only for people who can't decide what kind of music they like, and let MTV do it for them.

chill out son...some people have the discipline to have fun on the internet and be nice in real life, don't ruin it for the rest of us...

and what im saying is that its not nessecarily the music as much as the attitude of a rockstar that makes one a rockstar. i'm sure blues and jazz fans back in the day said the same things the op did when all of those classic rockers came out.

The word "rock star" to me is kinda stupid now and the thing that is bothering me is you want it back.Rap star havent really been known to making original stuff so I'm not surprised they call them selves rock stars. It is like watching a 5 year old talking about sex ,rap stars don't even know what a power chord is but anyways on with the rock star bull****.If we had so call rock stars we be having a bunch of GLAM(Gay L.A Metal )bands ruling the world again which is bad and the weird thing is rap is the new glam metal. They only want money, girls, and sex.....plus they are tasteless

BTW who give a ****.

Hell...one rapper had to rip off off OZZY to make a hit. Lol. What does that tell you all?
#35
Who cares? Rockstars blow.

Inflated egos, "oh look at me, I can solo, now I'm going to O.D. and get wasted and trash an apartment and do a couple of ***** groupies, because besides being an amazing musician, I am also a total rebel"

EDIT - wow, what the hell, you don't need a "right" to call yourself a rockstar, it's just a label, you can call yourself whatever the hell you want. Besides being a rapper is no better then being a rocker or vice versa, if either of those words were ever a positive title, they have been destroyed time and time again, but pretty much everyone who claims to be a rapper or rockstar.

In short, calling yourself rockstar is lame, calling yourself a rapper is lame. No matter what you "really are".

it pisses me off when on MTV they call rappers rock stars. like i saw some **** abot Jay Z and there like "and this rock stars house is a bajillion square feet with....." that bugs the **** out of me. someone needs to smash these people over the head with a les paul and show them what rock is. ****ing VJs.

Oh hell, it'll all work itself out. Eventually one trend will fizzle out, another one will come in and people will be unhappy with that one too. So it really doesn't matter who's being called what to me.

So if they want to call themselves 'rockstars' so be it, eventually they'll come up with something 'cooler' or more...umm...'fly' then that. And it'll be free once again.

I'm going to answer the kid rock one.

As much as people hate him... I think he's an awesome musician. I saw him live, and not only did he play the guitar, but he played the drums, keyboard, and record table (or whatever those are... the ones with two records on them and the guys mess with them and turn knobs and stuff...)

I've been trying to figure out for a long while how any "singer/rapper" that gets even mildly famous gets the right to call themselves "rockstars". "Rapstars" seem more appropriate to me.

Stupid bull****, but what can you do?(Stop watching **** like MTV would be a good start.)
