The Ax isn't Dave's model, you're confusing with the deceased Axxion. Which has got NOTHING on this work of art. Looks fantastic!

How many pups? The reason I ask is because there is a switch.

the switch was an accident by the guy who did the rendering. it'll be 1 volume pot in the end.

hundreds of hours went into R&D on this. i was so freakin anal about how the curves had to be and the exact angling of certain things.....i spent so much time sitting on my computer w/ my CAD program it was ridiculous

but yeah, that was the goal, METAL!

I love how the fretboard is cut near the 24th fret.

What pickup are you putting on it?

when I get it (and in all further pictures once hardware goes in), it'll have a Bill Lawrence zebra L500-XL in it

this is temporary though, I'll be putting a custom wound Manlius pickup I had designed for it in there when it comes in

look at the last pic on the bottom, you can see runs in the clear laquer. Theres also some orange peel in the other pics. All normal stuff a good wet sanding and buff should take care of though.

yeah, it's just the first lacquer man to fill in pores. it'll be sanded down to wood tomorrow. not even close to the actual finish or paint yet.

Sure, but that's a hella weird approach, really. Most (in fact, everybody else I've heard of) rout everything, and then start with the finishing steps...

Also, I concur with the above- too bad it's getting painted. It's mighty fine looking as it is... But no matter what finish it's gonna get, it's still a great design, really.

Oh, also, someone said it looks like an ESP AX... Actually, it really doesn't.

You have excellent taste, that guitar is beautiful. This is just peronal taste, but with that design I think no inlays would look nice.
Daron. The Pit loves you.
daron aka kosmic is now a pit legend
Best post on the pit. Good for you.
thats pretty epic.
So you're like a slower paced Forrest Gump...
Yup...
#37
Oh yeah, about the inlays- what're they gonna be made of? MOP and black MOP?
#38
nice guitar, who else noticed the boobs in the background of the picture, of the back of the headstock.
Don't take me too seriously.

Too bad you can't get the Roland VG system they have in the strat to make that thing ultra-versatile. That thing would be even sweeter at that point... But damn is that guitar beautiful.

Neck pup would get in the way of the arc in the fretboard binding. I never use neck pickups anyway so why put em in a custom that's made for me? :-p

Yeah, I asked about the routing and apparently that's just how the guy likes to do it; whatever floats his boat he's done a great job so far

As far as paint, I wanted a unique paintjob. Though wood grains look nice and all, it's all been done before and I wanted every facet of the design to be unique in a way.

That thing is beautiful! How much does something like that cost? I want one!

It should cost me roughly 2'ish when it's all said and done.

No inlays always looks nice! But I always had a thing for these and block (in this case, double blocks) inlays w/ multi-ply binding gives a guitar a certain class.....like a Les Paul or a Dean V, etc. Wanted to go with that "fully loaded" look.

I didn't want this to versatile at all. Synths? That's on a whole different planet from what I want out of this thing.
