So I'm in highschool and taking a couple college courses just to get a few credits out of the way, and right now i'm taking intro to music theory (they don't let you test out. ). After this class, they recommend you go on to "sight singing and dictation". I'd like to be a professional musician, however I do not plan on majoring in music so I can keep my options open. I have a monotone voice and cannot sing at all. With these in mind, is it really important to take the class?

Learning to sight-sing was useful for me because it helped me learn to either look at notes on a page and get a good sense of what they sound like, or translate an idea in my head onto paper. Nothing wrong with getting your voice a little under control, either.
